3 new projects worth OMR 5.7 million inked for fisheries sector

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agricultural and Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources signed three agreements to develop the fisheries sector in the wilayats of Khasab, Bukha, and Ras Al Hadd, at a cost of over OMR5.7 million.

The projects were to set up a fish market in the wilayat of Khasab, built breakwaters in the villages of Al-Jari and Al-Ghamma in the wilayat of of Bukha, and to develop a fishermen’s marina in the Khor Al-Hajar area.

The first agreement included the establishment of a fish market at the sea fishing port of Khasab with the Sultanate Investment Services Company. The construction area amounted to 2,386 square meters and it consists of two floors including a hall for selling fish, 11 cutting shops, a cold room, an ice production unit among other facilities.

The second agreement included the establishment of breakwaters in the villages of Al-Jari and Al-Ghama in the wilayat of Bukha in the Musandam Governorate, with the Khimji Ramdas Contracting Company. It will provide basic services for the fisheries sector in the two regions, from main breakers and breakers.

The third agreement also included the development of the fishermen’s marina in the Khor Al Hajar area in Ras Al Hadd Procuratorate in the wilayat of Tyre with Khimji Ramdas Contracting Company, funded by the Oman Liquefied Natural Gas Development Corporation, which consists of several phases and will include slides for boats, a breakwater for protection, and parking for fishing boats, in addition to several services and facilities that serve the fish sector in the region.

About 946 fishermen will benefit from the project and the number of boats is estimated at about 616 boats, in addition to about 166 fish transport and marketing vehicles.

The agreements were signed by Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agricultural and Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources, in the presence of Sayyid Ibrahim bin Saud Al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam, Engineer Yaqoub bin Khalfan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agricultural and Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources, and Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agricultural and Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources, in the presence of Sayyid Ibrahim bin Saud Al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam, Engineer Yaqoub bin Khalfan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agricultural and Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources, and a number of officials in the Ministry and the companies supporting and implementing the projects.

It is worth noting that these projects are part of the government’s plan for economic diversification and work on developing and establishing fishing ports, and developing and establishing landing facilities in the Sultanate.
