Education Ministry allocates OMR 3.9 million to improve school transportation in Oman

MUSCAT : As part of improving the school transportation in the country, the Ministry of Education said it has allocated an additional fund of OMR 3.9 million towards providing 650 extra buses.

The statement from the ministry comes after a video of kids packed together in a school bus was widely circulated on social media early this week.

“The Ministry is keen to provide everything that would provide an appropriate learning environment for students,” MOE said.

“During the current academic year (2022-2023), in coordination with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry was able to provide additional financial funds for school transport amounting to OMR 3.9 million to provide 650 additional buses to cover the increasing growth in the number of students in school buses, and to improve the school transport conditions, this fund allows renting buses with a larger and newer capacity in a number of governorates,” the Ministry said.

However, the ministry said the shortage of buses in the market has become a challenge. “To find suitable buses that come with these specifications is always a challenge,” the Ministry said.

“The Ministry affirms its full keenness to improve the conditions of school transport, and to enhance the security and safety specifications for its students according to the available financial resources and in partnership with all parties concerned with the matter,” the Ministry added.
