Foreign Affairs Minister receives Swiss Special Envoy for MENA

MUSCAT : During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to enhance them and diversify cooperation in the economic, commercial and cultural fields.

They followed up on the agreements and memorandums of understanding that were signed during the official visit made by H.E. Dr. Alain Berset, President of the Swiss Confederation, to the Sultanate of Oman in November 2023.

The two sides also exchanged views on the current regional and international developments, most notably the repercussions of the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the necessity of achieving an immediate ceasefire and opening the crossings for the flow of all relief needs and necessary living materials for the population, which will help reduce the escalation, contain the expansion of the conflict in the region, and establish the logic of a return to peace.

The meeting was attended by H.E. Sheikh Humaid bin Ali Al Maani, Head of the Global Affairs Department, and H.E. Munther bin Mahfouz Al Mandhari, Head of the Europe Department at the Foreign Ministry. On the Swiss side, H.E. Thomas Oertel, Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, and Marilyn Rao, Deputy Regional Coordinator of the Middle East Department, were present, along with a number of officials from both sides.
