FSQC launches Food Safety Week in Oman

MUSCAT : The week-long program (April 28 to May 4) aims to raise awareness about food safety measures and best practices across the food sector.

At a media meeting to launch the activities, Dr. Hussein Al Masrouri, Director General of the Food Safety and Quality Center, delivered a presentation outlining the role of the center in Oman’s food safety and quality system.

The Food Safety Week emphasizes the importance of partnership, awareness, and commitment in ensuring the safety and quality of food products in the Sultanate of Oman. Through collaborative efforts and education, stakeholders aim to build a robust food safety culture across the nation.

The Week will feature the Oman International Food Safety and Qualities Conference at the Mövenpick Hotel Azaiba, which will include workshops, brainstorming sessions, and consumer awareness programs. Experts will present scientific discussions, working papers, and engage in panel discussions. High-ranking officials, including ministers, will share their perspectives on ensuring food safety in a future with fluctuating resource availability.

The event also includes a ‘Shop Smart, Eat Safe’ program to educate shoppers at Oman Avenues Mall about healthy purchasing methods, consumer rights, and responsible shopping practices.

One of the highlights of the event is the Laboratory Forum, a 24-hour technical competition designed to foster innovation in addressing challenges related to food safety and quality. Competitors, comprising individuals with diverse experiences and talents, will collaborate to develop innovative solutions.

Moreover, a competition will be held in a major shopping center, focusing on educating consumers about healthy purchasing habits and the importance of making informed choices when shopping for food. Valuable prizes await the winners of these engaging competitions.
