MUSCAT: On Wednesday, Oman’s Ministry of Health shut down three private health institutions permanently after it found grave violations.

Dr Muhana bin Nasser Al Maslahi, Director General of Private Health Institutions at MOH said one of the health institutions that was suspended “used to operate sometimes without doctors and gave inaccurate results which is a serious offence.”

MOH also temporarily closed 18 private health institutions, while clinical privileges were withdrawn from several medical staff, and two private specialised health institutions were suspended. Furthermore, the MOH also issued warnings to 66 private health institutions. It also warned 34 health institutions about publishing some advertisements on social media without permits.

According to Dr Muhana, one of the clinics was operating with a dentist “who was performing the duty of orthodontics, and a general surgeon was performing the childbirth operations for women.”

MOH officials also spotted a health institution without employees. Dr Muhana said a deadline was given for private health institutions to correct these violations.

“MOH is moving forward to take all the statutory measures, including precautionary closures for any health institution that does not adhere to the quality standards required for health services,” he said.
