Indian School Muscat celebrates 48th Annual Day

Muscat: Indian School Muscat whooped it up with much pomp and gaiety on the occasion of its Annual Day celebration at the school’s New Multi-Purpose Hall on the 1st of February, 2024.  It was indeed a captivating evening with a rich symphony of achievements and emotions, a vibrant tapestry woven with the threads of diverse cultures and a joyous celebration of harmony.

A galaxy of dignitaries graced the solemn occasion. The Chief Guest Ms.Mahfoudha Mubarak Al Araimi, Director General for Labour, Muscat Governorate and the Guest of Honour,  Dr.Sivakumar Manickam, Chairman Board of Directors, Indian Schools in  Oman, Mrs. Ashwini Sachin Sawrikar, Finance Director,  Board of Directors, Indian Schools in  Oman, Mr. Nideesh Kumar, Mr. Sirajudeen Nehlat, Mr. Krishnenedu S, Directors of Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman, Mr. Vinobha MP, Senior Principal and Education Advisor, Board of Directors, grandparents, parents and other valued guests joined the proceedings.  

Principal Mr. Rakesh Joshi, Senior Vice- Principal -Administration, Vice- Principals and Assistant Vice-Principals of various sections, Heads of various Departments, teachers, student council members and students were luminous with pride and enthusiasm hosting the mega event.

National Anthems of India and Oman marked the commencement of the auspicious occasion. Lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a melodic prayer song by the school choir facilitated a connection with the divine. Head Girl, Chandrika Singh Yaduvanshi accorded a formal welcome to the august gathering.

‘Excellence Redefined’-a panoramic vision of the crowning moments and the principles that drive the prodigious institution was a mesmerizing view. This was followed by yet another montage unveiling the latest developments and insights that accelerated the journey in the year 2024. 

Principal Mr. Rakesh Joshi presented the annual report that walked the audience through the chronicles of activities, events, achievements, and accolades clinched by ISM over the past year.

The most awaited moment was the felicitation and acknowledgement of the hard work and enthusiasm of the teaching and non-teaching staff for their zestful contribution to the achievements of the school. Guest of Honour, Dr. Sivakumar Manickam was invited to do the honours. Ms Prema George, Vice Principal, Pre-Primary section and Mr. Aklary Sajindran, Vice Principal, Middle Section invited the teachers receiving awards for completing ten, twenty and twenty five years of dedicated service to the school. The Best Teacher awardees were also felicitated by the Guest of Honour. This was followed by the thought-provoking words of the Guest of Honour. In his address he shared a very interesting theory of IKIGAI, which is a Japanese concept referring to something that gives a person a sense of purpose and a reason for living. He incentivized the audience to follow this for living a happy and healthy life. He added, by following this theory one can lead a gratifying life, by doing what he enjoys, what he is skilled at and which will surely be beneficial for the society too. He also wished good luck to the students for their approaching board examinations. 

As a token of love and gratitude, a beautiful painting was presented by Anushka Unnithan of class IX M to the Guest of Honour.

Chief Guest Ms. Mahfoudha Mubarak Al Araimi, Director General for Labor, Muscat Governorate was invited to bestow the teachers whose exemplary guidance helped the students score a centum in the 2023 Board examination. The CBSE National Sports & Games medal winners and their coaches were also felicitated on this momentous occasion. All the achievers were invited to the stage by the Vice Principal Senior Section, Ms. Rashmi Singh.  

As a token of appreciation, the Chief Guest was presented with a painting radiating an artistic charisma by Fathima Raza of XI K. 

Next to follow was the cultural fiesta of the evening.This had a touch of surprise with the arrival of  Captain Jack Sparrow, Pied Piper and Wonder Woman. The audience was in awe to see their favourite fictional characters amidst them. Only love and harmony can truly save the world was the message from the trio. The upcoming performances were woven around the theme of ‘HARMONY’ which was indeed the theme of the day.The trio mesmerisingly sailed the audience across the sea of programmes. 

A bunch of pre-primary kids celebrated love and harmony by tapping their feet to a rhythmic performance. This dance enchantingly conveyed the message of transcending boundaries through the universal language of love. A fantabulous performance by the Little Masters of the Primary Section explored the treasure trove of nature with their captivating dance number. The super dancers from the Middle Section transported the crowd to a medley of dance performances. It was an expression of harmony through dance and music. The Senior Section artists enraptured the gathering with a spectacular display of the elements of the earth working harmoniously to ward off discord and sustain life. 

Harmony through music, a heartwarming song from the Senior Section ferried the audience to a world of peace and tranquility. As an ending note, the trio vowed to foster, understand and protect nature. They distributed some seeds to the eminent guests, instilling a feeling of love and care towards Mother nature. 

When all was said and done the classic stars took their leave with a profound message that these seeds of love when planted and nurtured are sure to bear fruits of harmony.

Subsequently, the grand event culminated with a vote of thanks by the Head Boy, Annirudh Sajith Menon, followed by the school anthem. The evening was a grand bouquet of well-chosen flowers presented to the eminent guests of ISM.
