Is Oman’s labour market open for persons with disabilities?

MUSCAT: The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gulf College on Wednesday to empower people with disabilities for the labour market.

The MoU comes within the framework of the partnerships through which the SMEDA seeks to empower persons with disabilities (physically challenged, speech impaired or visually challenged) by enrolling them in integrated training courses to develop their skills and provide them with best practices to deal with different business environments.

The MoU also includes the involvement of institutions supporting people with disabilities by listening to their needs and visions and benefiting from their ideas as well as encouraging job seekers with disabilities to innovate and think strategically and to initiate ideas and initiatives necessary to integrate them into the labour market and embody their ideas into reality.

The SMEDA and the Gulf College will jointly organise events and exhibitions with the aim of marketing projects for participants in training courses for persons with disabilities and presenting their projects in the labour market.

Halima bint Rashid Al-Zariah, Chairperson of SMEDA and Prof. Dr. Ali bin Hamad Al-Badi, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and Scientific Research of Gulf College signed the MoU.
