MUSCAT : As part of funding the education of children from low-income families, the Indian School Muscat Alumni (ISMA) is hosting a charity cricket tournament at Oman Cricket’s Al Amerat Cricket Turf Ground on February 19, 11 AM – 8 PM.
The tournament will raise funds to support financially weak students of Indian School Muscat, helping them continue their education and achieve their full potential. The Indian School Muscat Alumni recognizes the importance of providing support to those in need and is committed to giving back to the school and its students.
Speaking to The Arabian Stories, Kapil Venkatachalam, President of ISMA said: “In these uncertain times it is reassuring that our alma mater continues to provide excellent education. As students try to amplify their skill sets, parents are trying to fulfil their expectations and needs. As alumni come together to give back to their alma mater. A small contribution makes a massive difference”
The event will feature a series of friendly cricket matches between ISM Alumni and is expected to unite and involve ISM Alumni from Oman and abroad to cheer and support their teams. In addition to the cricket matches, there will be a variety of food, drinks, and activities available for participants and spectators to enjoy.
Over the past 5 years, ISMA hosted five sporting events, and the proceeds from the events resulted in the awarding of tuition fee scholarships to 100+ ISM students from low-income families. The academic scholarship awardees were selected using criteria that gave preference to students with a single parent and with very low or no income.
All for the cause
Speaking to The Arabian Stories, ISMA Vice-President Vineet Nair adds: “A lot of children out there do not have access to basic education. Some of them may have the power to be world leaders tomorrow, others may bring honour to their country in sports and many would go ahead and find cures for life-threatening diseases. But all this will be possible if they are nurtured and directed in the right direction through education.
We were fortunate enough to go to the best schools possible, and have the best teachers and facilities. But many are not. And now it’s our time to give back…
Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope. Hope breeds peace. ISMA aims to fund the less privileged children’s education, who are the future of tomorrow.”
