Joint committee formed to implement school supplies, daily meals scheme in Oman

MUSCAT: The Minister of Education has issued a decision to form a committee to implement the the initiative to provide school bags and daily meals for government school students from low-income families.

A total of 59,000 students in Omani government schools will benefit the directives issued by His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik to provide school supplies and daily meals, as schools across the country reopens on September 4.

The joint committee according to the decision will be from the Ministries of Education and Social Development.

The committee is headed by Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Undersecretary for Education at the Ministry of Education, and Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development. The team will also have officials from the two ministries.

The decision also stipulates that the committee will initiate coordination between the stakeholders in the relevant authorities on identifying the targeted students for the initiative. The decision also said the team must complete the work within two weeks and should submit a comprehensive report to the Minister of Education and the Minister of Social Development.
