National Museum showcases cultural riches at Muscat International Book Fair 2024

Muscat – At the heart of the Muscat International Book Fair, the National Museum invites visitors on a journey through time and knowledge. With a diverse array of museum and cultural activities, the museum’s participation transcends mere exhibition, offering an immersive experience that engages visitors of all ages and interests.

Its most prominent publications are central to the museum’s showcase. Among these treasures is “A Collection of Marine Science,” a testament to Omani navigator Ahmed bin Majid Al-Saadi’s maritime prowess and navigational ingenuity, dating back to the 11th century A.H./16 A.D. Accompanying this historical gem is “Impressionist Drawings of Oman and the Gulf,” featuring enchanting watercolour depictions by English marine surveyor Charles Golding Constable from the 1940s and 1950s.

In addition to literary delights, the museum unveils a captivating mini-exhibition showcasing archaeological marvels that underscore the importance of writing and blogging in ancient times. From seals with alphabet-like inscriptions dating back to 2200 BC to exquisite artefacts such as a pen box from the 18th century A.H./18 A.D., visitors are treated to a fascinating glimpse into Oman’s rich heritage of literacy and creativity.

The museum’s corner buzzes with artistic workshops and educational seminars for families and children, offering hands-on experiences centred around the National Museum’s collections related to the Al Dhahirah Governorate. As the guest of honour for this year’s exhibition, Al Dhahirah Governorate takes centre stage, with lectures and displays highlighting its archaeological treasures found in sites like Bat, Al-Salami, Al-Waqba and Al-Safa.

Moreover, visitors can explore membership options with the Friends of Oman Museums, interact with virtual tours, and discover the museum’s latest publications online.
