National Museum unveils exclusive collection of Omani goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi’s historic achievements

MUSCAT : In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, this exhibition features iconic memorabilia, including Al Habsi’s FA Cup-winning medal and jersey worn during a historic match at Wembley Stadium.

The exhibition, inaugurated by Ali Al Habsi himself, presents a captivating journey through his achievements, spanning two decades of dedication and excellence in professional football. Among the highlighted items is the coveted FA Cup medal from the 2012-2013 season, commemorating Wigan Athletic’s triumphant victory under Al Habsi’s leadership.

During the opening ceremony, Ali Al Habsi expressed his profound gratitude, stating, “I am full of pride and splendour on the occasion of the inauguration of the collection corner of my sporting achievements in the National Museum.” His sentiments echoed a sense of national pride and inspiration for aspiring athletes across Oman.

The Secretary-General of the National Museum, His Excellency Jamal bin Hassan Al Musawi, emphasized the significance of showcasing Al Habsi’s legacy. He remarked, “By displaying the collections of the achievements of our national team goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi in the National Museum, we aim to focus on his inspiring career as one of the most prominent national symbols in the world of football.”

Notable figures, including His Excellency Basil bin Ahmed Al Rawas and Salem bin Saeed Al Wahaibi, graced the ceremony, demonstrating the widespread recognition and appreciation for Al Habsi’s contributions to Omani sports.

Ali Al Habsi’s remarkable journey began in Al-Mudhaibi, leading him to international acclaim as a goalkeeper renowned for his reliability and skill. His achievements, including winning multiple awards such as the best goalkeeper in the Gulf Cup and being the first Arab player to win the FA Cup, have earned him accolades and recognition, including the Medal of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
