Oman completes two vital dam projects, boosting flood protection in Muscat region

Muscat: Engineer Nasser bin Mohammed Al Battashi, the Director General of the General Directorate of Water Resources Assessment at the Ministry, highlighted the successful completion of the basic construction work for the Al-Jufaina Dam in Al Amerat Wilayat. With a length of 2.66 kilometres and a storage capacity of 15.7 million cubic meters of water, this dam is accompanied by an 8-kilometre diversionary canal and a channel to drain surplus water, ensuring effective water management.

Additionally, the Al-Jifnain Dam project in Seeb Wilayat, featuring an 18.5-meter-high rubble dam with multiple spillways and monitoring devices, further strengthens Oman’s flood protection infrastructure. These dams safeguard commercial and residential areas and support water conservation efforts and optimal utilization.

The Ministry’s commitment to establishing a comprehensive system of dams across Oman underscores its dedication to preserving properties and enhancing water-related benefits. Moreover, these dams are envisioned as potential tourist attractions, showcasing Oman’s achievements in water management while offering recreational opportunities for citizens and residents alike.
