Omani Craftsman Day to be celebrated tomorrow

MUSCAT – The celebrations, to be held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Ghosn bin Hilal Al Alawi, President of the State Financial and Administrative Audit Institution, will review the efforts made by ASMED in developing creative craft industries. It will also witness the establishment of Omani Crafts Market Exhibition in the Bahri Street in the Wilayat of Mutrah, which will include more than 20 small and medium enterprises and crafts; it will continue until March 7.

The Authority has implemented various events and exhibitions on the occasion of the Omani Craftsman Day (held every year on March 3) in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman to spread awareness of the importance of craft industries, highlight craftsmen and their products, and enhance efforts to promote Omani crafts.
ASMED recently issued a regulation to support craft industries, and has identified 20 craft areas, most notably the manufacture of Omani daggers and handicraft products such as pottery, porcelain, leather, palm fronds, wood, stone, gypsum, the preparation of incense, traditional fishing tools, and others.

The Authority pointed out that the number of craftsmen in the Sultanate of Oman is over 23,000, and noted that it had received about 1,035 requests for craft support in 2022. On the other hand, the Home Productive Business Regulation, issued by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion last year, included 30 activities, 16 of which are craft activities.
