Omani cultural evening lights up the Hermitage Museum in Moscow

MOSCOW: The second edition of this initiative, themed “The Omani Empire: Between Asia and Africa,” was unveiled in December 2023.

The delegation from Oman, led by His Excellency Qais bin Muhammad Al-Yousef, Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment Promotion, engaged in discussions with Russian counterparts, including His Excellency Maxim Gennadievich Reshnikov, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.

During the event, His Excellency Jamal bin Hassan Al-Moussawi, Secretary-General of the National Museum, emphasized the deep-rooted friendship between the National Museum and the State Hermitage Museum. He highlighted the significance of the “Oman Hall” initiative in fostering cultural exchanges and promoting mutual understanding.

Attendees at the evening were treated to the enchanting melodies of Omani music performed by the “Skills” musical group, led by Yousef bin Saeed Al-Fouri. Guests also explored the “Oman Hall” and admired artifacts from the exhibition “The Omani Empire between Asia and Africa,” showcasing Oman’s historical legacy and cultural contributions.

Notable exhibits included artefacts belonging to late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, reflecting the shared history between Oman and Russia. These included a Katara sword dating back to the 11th-13th centuries AH/17th-19th centuries AD, highlighting maritime ties during the Omani Empire’s era.

In the context of the International Economic Forum, a new agreement was signed with the State Hermitage Museum to launch the second exhibition of the Hermitage Corner initiative in the National Museum, focusing on historical exchanges between Central Asian khans and the Russian Tsarist court.

The “Omani Cultural Evening” attracted dignitaries such as His Excellency Hamoud bin Salem Al Tuwaih, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Russian Federation, and His Excellency Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
