Omani Lawyers Association aims to assist 1,500 cases under 11th edition of ‘Fak Kurba’

MUSCAT : During an annual meeting recently, OLA indicated that over 10 government and private institutions have already pledged their support for this noble cause.

Dr. Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al Zadjali, Chairman of the Omani Lawyers Association, emphasized the initiative’s humanitarian significance in alleviating the plight of the underprivileged. He highlighted the community’s solidarity and the crucial role played by both individuals and institutions in achieving the initiative’s goals.

The Fak Kubra initiative aims to collect funds to assist in the release of the families of insolvent people who are in prison due to claims owed to them in different cases (civil, commercial, legal, and labour).
Notable contributors to the initiative this year include Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim’s office, Daleel Petroleum Company, Omantel, Al Maha Petroleum Products Marketing Company, OHI Company, Oman Authority for Charitable Activities, Oman Liquefied Natural Gas Company, Thawani Company, Ooredoo Company, and OQ Group.

The initiative focuses on cases meeting specific criteria, including a debt not exceeding RO 2,000, and prioritizes the payment of smaller claims followed by older cases; criminal cases are, however, excluded from the initiative’s scope.

Since its inception in 2012, the ‘Fak Kurba’ initiative has facilitated the release of over 5,890 cases, underscoring its significant impact on the community. Individuals interested in contributing to the initiative’s cause can donate through the designated bank account or the initiative’s website.
