Oman’s 1st Digital Government forum to launch new digital services

MUSCAT : The 1st Digital Government Forum began today at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre with the participation of 30 government and private entities.

During the course of the two days, the Forum, fielding 25 speakers, is scheduled to launch new digital services, solutions and products in the government sector. It will throw the spotlight on the efforts and achievements of the government sector in the field of digital transformation; it will also review regional and global practices and means of improving institutional cooperation and exchange experiences in knowledge areas of digital transformation.

Speaking at the Forum, Abdulaziz Al Kharousi, Director General for Digital Transformation and Sector Empowerment at the Ministry, said that Oman Vision 2040 has set a number of targets for digital transformation for the period 2025-2040, including the contribution of the communications and information technology sector to the gross domestic product, which is expected to reach approximately 3% in 2025, rising gradually to reach 10% in 2040.

National goals related to the government digital transformation program for 2021-2025 also include digital transformation of basic services and the provision of distinct smart services; simplifying and improving procedures and quality of government services; and enhancing the digital user experience and building trust and community awareness of e-services.

The satisfaction rate of beneficiaries of e-government services has increased by 60%, while the percentages of digital readiness index in the public sector and government services that are completed digitally through the Internet are 80%, respectively.

The forum addresses the most prominent challenges and obstacles facing the implementation of government digital transformation and proposes new solutions and methodologies to overcome them, in addition to exploring new tools that empower national competencies to ensure sustainability, continuous improvement and keeping pace with global changes.
