MUSCAT : Oman’s first commercial unit made using 3D printing technology has been established at the Special Economic Zone at Duqm. Engineer Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, the CEO in charge of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, stated that the economic zone supports the trend of building commercial units, complete with all its accessories, using 3D printing and encourages its use in many other facilities and sectors.

Eng. Saif bin Nasser Al Busaidi, Director of the Projects Department at the Oman Special Economic Zone Development Company in Duqm, stated that construction works of the commercial unit, along with its attachments were completed on an area of 101 square meters, and added that a residential unit is being prepared as well.

3D printing tech aims to save time through the speed of construction, and the facility does not need concrete columns during the construction of the structure but is instead based on converting the cement material of this technology into an integrated structure using an automatic printer. In addition, using this technology also resulted in the construction being completed with record speed.
