Oman’s tourism ministry opens Qurna Qaid Mosque in Samail

MUSCAT : The Mosque was inaugurated under the auspices of H.E. Sheikh Sultan bin Ali bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, the Wali of Samail, and in the presence of several dignitaries.

The mosque, located at a height of approximately 3 meters above the ground, consists of the main prayer hall, and a platform of 30 square meters. The interior includes a mihrab, columns with architectural arches, four windows, and two entrances from the side of the edifice; the outer structure consists of a seating bench, with stairs on both sides.

The mosque is also equipped with an audio system and internal and external loudspeakers, in addition to all the necessary services and amenities.

The restoration and maintenance work was undertaken in several stages, including documentation and photography, cleaning and consolidation work and preparation of drawings for the restoration work, taking into account the preservation of architecture and style in which the mosque was built, as well as the use of traditional building materials, like stones and clay that constituted 70 percent of the materials.
