MUSCAT : TRA, in cooperation with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and telecommunications service providers, has initiated an early warning broadcast service to send alerts on mobile phones to warn people of emergencies.

The announcement stated: ‘Dear citizen and resident: Emergencies can happen at any time, you have to be ready to take preventive measures by activating the early warning feature on your phone – to protect yourself and your family.’ The announcement accompanies a demonstration video to apprise users on activating the service.
Mobile users are required to activate the early warning feature on their phone to receive instant alerts about weather related emergencies.
‘To ensure that weather alarms arrive as quickly as possible, the Civil Aviation Authority, represented by the National Center for Early Warning from Multiple Risks, and in partnership with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, has worked on developing the early warning service,’ the announcement added.
