Planning to camp out during National Day holidays? Follow guidelines issued by Muscat Municipality

MUSCAT : As per the camping guide issued by the Muscat Municipality, following are the regulatory controls for camping and tourist caravans:

• It is not permissible to camp, whether in a caravan or a tent, for a period of more than 48 hours, except after obtaining necessary permits from the competent authority, after paying a security deposit of OMR 100.
• The license is for a period of seven nights, which can be extended.
• In the event that there are requests for other beneficiaries for the same location, further extension is not allowed.

Site requirements:

• Camping must be in the places specified by the municipality
• Distance between two sites should be not less than 5 meters or as determined by the competent authority.
• A distance of at least 10 meters should be left between the camping site and the beach.
• The camping site should be away from fishermen’s sites and sites prohibited by security.
• The camping site must be at least 100 meters away from residential neighborhoods.

Health requirements:

• Maintain cleanliness of the designated site throughout the period of use.
• Do not use any portable toilets that are not sanitarily approved with sewage tank; do not dispose of waste except in designated places.
• Do not damage crops and wild plants.
• Do not erect barriers or any kind of modifications to the natural environment of the camping site.
• Do not dig or burn landfill waste.
• Do not light a fire or barbecue on green surfaces and beaches.

Safety and Security

  • The camping licensee is obligated to provide security and safety equipment for each site around the clock.
  • If a fence is used around the site, it must be made of temporary materials and not block the view.
  • Do not use lasers or upward-directed lights.
  • Do not use the camp or caravan for purposes that are prohibited or disturbing others.
  • Adhere to the laws, public order and morals that are in force in the Sultanate of Oman.
  • The issued license number must be displayed on a plate on the front of the caravan or tent.
  • The licensee may not assign the license to others or practice the activity on a site other than the site specified in the license.
  • Do not use concrete or other building materials for any purpose.
  • Do not use generators that cause inconvenience to site visitors.
  • Organise car parks, entry and exit to and from the site.
  • Do not pave or level the site with heavy equipment
  • 6- Do not carry out any parties on the site.
  • Maintain the general appearance by checking the specifications of tents and caravans.
    Penalty
  • An administrative fine of OMR 200 in the event of camping without obtaining the necessary license.
  • A fine of OMR 50 in the event of non-compliance with one of the controls or requirements for camping.
  • In the event of no response within 24 hours of issuing the violation, the caravan, tent, or session will be removed at the owner’s expense.
