DOHA : Qatar said entry to the country will be restricted to only citizens, residents and holders of the World Cup Hayya card, starting from November 1.
Doha will suspend visits by people not attending Fifa World Cup matches until December 23. According to officials, the restrictions apply to all land, sea and air borders to anyone not holding the Hayya Card – the fan ID issued by the government.
Only those with a match ticket can apply for Hayya fan ID entry permit — a pre-approved digital visa linked to a passport that offers free public transport around the country. Officials has confirmed that the border shutdown will not affect Qatari citizens, residents, GCC citizens holding a Qatari ID card, holders of personal or work visa, and approved humanitarian cases.
Football governing body Fifa has already sold 2.45 million of the three million match tickets.
