SQU announces winners of Royal Grant for Research Projects 2024

MUSCAT : The announcement coincided with the university’s 24th anniversary celebrations that was held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Khamis bin Saif Al Jabri, Chairman of Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit.

Among the winners were Professor Dr. Rashid bin Abdullah Al Yahyai from the College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences for his research on Olives: An Innovation in Added Value and Increasing Production in the Sultanate of Oman’ and Dr. Muhammad Farouk, also from the College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences, for his research on ‘The Ecology of Invasion and Management of Parthenium Plants in the Sultanate of Oman’.

Other projects included Professor Dr. Renraj Selvaraj’s research on ‘Removing and Reducing the Level of Carbon Dioxide by Converting it into Useful Final Products using Photocatalysts and Sustainable Renewable Solar Energy’, and Dr. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Saadi’s work on ‘Technical and Economic Evaluation of Low-Energy and Flexible Air Conditioning Systems for the Building Sector in Hot Climates in the Sultanate of Oman.’

Dr. Zainab Yauri’s research on ‘Estimation, Classification, and Risk Assessment of Microplastics in Wastewater Treatment Plants’, Dr. Muhammad Abdul Qayyum’s study on ‘Maximizing the Cooling Efficiency of Buildings in the Sultanate of Oman’ and Dr. Muhammad bin Zahir Al-Abri’s project on ‘Green Gold: Designing Effective Catalytic Systems to Convert Carbon Dioxide into Polycarbonates or High-Value Organic Carbonates’ were also recognized for their significant contributions.

In a statement, Professor Dr. Amer bin Saif Al Hinai, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, highlighted the importance of the international conference and exhibition for scientific research and innovation held in conjunction with University Day.

The event, titled ‘Supporting Economic and Digital Transformation to Achieve Oman Vision 2040,’ aims to elevate scientific research and innovation to support economic and digital transformation in alignment with the strategic goals of Oman’s vision. Dr. Al Hinai emphasized the university’s commitment to advancing research and innovation, guided by the unwavering support of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
