MUSCAT: The Omani innovator Sumaya bint Saeed Al-Siyabiya’s scientific idea has been accepted by the jury of the 14th season of ‘Stars of Science’ program and qualified for the next stage of the famous program which has been organized by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development for over a decade.
Sumaya’s scientific innovation ‘Bio-analysis of microplastics in a new way of biological and nanotechnology’ was selected by a panel of experts and is among seven scientific innovations accepted.
“The innovation offers a lasting solution to eliminate and dispose of microplastics in a safe and environmentally friendly manner by using a microbial confinement, a nano-zinc oxide catalyst,” Sumaya told Oman News Agency after her innovation was accepted by the jury on Friday. “I faced stiff competition from all over the Arab world to reach this level and the jury accepting my scientific innovation idea proves the great capabilities of Omani innovators.”
The Stars of Science program is one of the leading and most popular scientific programs in the Arab world. “The Stars of Science program focuses on innovation with the aim of supporting and encouraging aspiring entrepreneurs in the field of science and technology in the region,” she added.
The contestants will present their solutions and their effectiveness within 12 weeks, with the support of jury comprising engineers and product developers who will evaluate each project every week.
In the final only three competitors will remain and compete for a prize which will finance their projects.
The Stars of Science is broadcast on Fridays and Saturdays till October 14 via six Arab channels and via YouTube.
