According to reports reaching here, the Typhoon Nanmadol bore down on Japan’s southernmost main island of Kyushu on Sunday. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) also warned of gales and high waves “like never experienced before”.
The US Navy’s Joint Typhoon Warning Center classified the 14th typhoon of the season as a super typhoon which could bring record rainfall, the JMA reportedly said, warning of the risk of rivers overflowing and landslides. Local authorities have cancelled cancelled trains in the area while a convenience store chain also shut down their hundreds of stores.
According to JMA, the forecast is that the super typhoon is expected to move out to sea by Wednesday.
