MUSCAT : The Ministry of Heritage is carrying out several projects to protect artisanal heritage, which is underscored as a national treasure and one of the most important pillars of preserving the Omani identity.
Implementation of these projects is aimed at adding value to the craft heritage, which enhances the tourism sector by providing unique experiences for visitor, while supporting craftsmen in developing their capabilities, and contributing to the marketing and promotion of the handicraft.

Alia Al Hinai, Director of the Craft Heritage Department at the Ministry, described craft heritage as all crafts/products that have historical, cultural and social significance and which are passed down through generations as represented in craft products. She pointed out that the Ministry is implementing a number of projects related to the artisan heritage, the most prominent of them is the ‘Innovation in Omani Sarooj’, which is a cooperative initiative launched between the Center for Industrial Innovation and the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
The project was completed and inaugurated officially with the trademark of the product and a cooperation agreement was signed with Oman Cement Company to produce the product commercially.
