Nama Services Dhofar powers up for Khareef Season with RO 9 million investment

MUSCAT : As the Khareef season of 2024 approaches, Nama Services Dhofar Company has announced the completion and operation of significant distribution projects in the Al Murooj, Sahalnout, and Tawi Atir Niyabat areas. With an investment of around RO 9 million, these projects aim to bolster the electricity network in Dhofar Governorate, ensuring reliable power supply during the peak tourist season.

Eng. Ali bin Issa Shamas, CEO of Nama Services Dhofar, highlighted the importance of these projects for improving and enhancing the electricity network to meet the increased demand due to the influx of tourists.

The rapid population growth and economic development in Dhofar have led to a surge in electricity demand. To address this, Nama Services Dhofar has completed the Al-Morouj station with a 2 x 20 mega volt-amperes capacity at over RO 3 million. Additionally, the Sahalnout-3 station, with the same capacity, was completed for RO 3.2 million, enhancing network reliability in the east of Salalah.

In Tawa Attir, the new station with a capacity of 2 x 10 megavolt amperes replaces the previous 11-kilovolt system, addressing voltage reduction issues caused by increased loads. This project, completed for approximately RO 2.3 million, ensures support for the main power distribution.

Beyond electricity, Nama Services Dhofar is also focusing on sanitation and water sectors. A contract worth up to RO 2 million has been awarded for implementing home connections over five years, and a tender has been launched to expand the Salalah wastewater treatment plant to a capacity of 83,000 cubic meters per day, with work expected to begin in the third quarter of 2024.

For water supply, technical teams are on standby across all regions, with strategic reservoirs ready to meet increased demand. In the Sahalnout area, pumps will operate longer hours to boost water productivity. Additional water tankers have also been deployed in areas without water networks in the Wilayats of Salalah and Taqah.

The operation and maintenance teams, equipped with the necessary resources, are prepared to handle any issues in Zones 2, 3, and 4 during the Khareef season.
